Oklahoma wrestling weight classes from the 2026–27 OSSAA manual, including high-school and junior-high boys’ and girls’ lists and January 1 allowance timing.

Quick answer

Oklahoma’s 2026–27 OSSAA wrestling manual lists fourteen boys’ high-school classes from 106 to 285 pounds and fourteen girls’ classes from 100 to 235. It also prints separate junior-high lists: boys start at 80 and girls at 73. Those younger lists are not generic charts for every Oklahoma youth club. Use the actual OSSAA school level, athlete eligibility record and event instructions. The manual’s two-pound growth allowance begins January 1, 2027, and should be applied through the official school process.

Which OSSAA weight classes are listed?

The current OSSAA manual supplies the high-school and junior-high sequences. Listed numbers are the nominal pound categories; the date’s authorized limit is a separate rule.

How are the junior-high lists different?

The boys’ junior-high sequence includes 80, 86, 92, 98 and 112, while the girls’ younger sequence includes 73, 82, 89, 96 and 102. Those values make the level distinction visible. A high-school chart cannot safely be reused simply because the event includes some ninth graders.

When an athlete’s grade and school competition level create a question, consult the school and current manual. The manual includes program requirements that depend on school participation. A parent’s selected division is not enough to decide which assessment or school-level rule applies.

When does Oklahoma’s growth allowance begin?

The 2026–27 dates section identifies January 1, 2027 for the two-pound growth allowance. That timing differs from states with December dates. A visiting family should not assume the allowance from a recent out-of-state tournament is already available at an Oklahoma school event.

Keep the class name unchanged in the bracket and communicate the authorized limit in the weigh-in instructions. Ask the school coach to confirm the athlete’s permitted class for the date. The allowance is not advice to seek a lower category or a replacement for the approved minimum record.

Does OSSAA govern every Oklahoma youth tournament?

No. A club or independent youth competition may use another organization’s age and weight framework. The location alone does not identify the governing list. Look for the sanctioning organization, school level and season in the packet before using any saved category.

  1. Identify OSSAA school competition or another organization.
  2. Select high school or junior high and the correct competition designation.
  3. Match the full numerical row rather than only its upper limit.
  4. Verify the school’s eligibility and event-date paperwork.

What should an Oklahoma host review before registration opens?

If both school levels are offered, make their names explicit and review all four lists. A younger girls’ 117 entry and a varsity girls’ 115 entry are not interchangeable. Staff should not round an unfamiliar value to the nearest available high-school option.

In Smart Wrestler, configure the actual divisions and inspect sample entries before sending links. Read the host workflow.

After entries close, resolve any level or class conflict with the authorized school coach before generating brackets. Keep one corrected registration so the family sees a single athlete entry and the event retains consistent results.
