Kansas wrestling weight classes from the 2026–27 KSHSAA manual: 14 boys’ and 14 girls’ categories, plus order-of-competition and school-record guidance.
Quick answer
Kansas’s 2026–27 KSHSAA manual adopts fourteen boys’ high-school wrestling classes from 106 to 285 pounds and fourteen girls’ classes from 100 to 235. The girls’ sequence includes 105, 110 and 115, while boys use 106, 113 and 120. A school classification is a different part of the competition from an athlete’s bodyweight category. Use the correct list together with the school’s approved weight record and the event instructions; the table alone does not authorize a particular athlete’s entry.
Which KSHSAA weight classes are listed?
The manual’s senior-high weight-class section explicitly identifies the 2026–27 season and both fourteen-class adoptions. These are nominal pounds before any authorized allowance.
| Competition | Nominal classes |
|---|---|
| Boys high school | 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285 |
| Girls high school | 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 155, 170, 190, 235 |
What does the manual say about competition order?
KSHSAA requires the order of weight-class competition to be established at least forty-eight hours before the event. Its manual addresses notifying participating schools when the order differs from beginning at the lightest category and progressing upward, and identifies the administration of a random draw.
That order is a scheduling fact, not a change to the class list. Families should not assume a 106-pound wrestler is first on the mat simply because 106 is the lightest boys’ category. Ask the coach for the actual event order and keep the published bout assignments current.
Why do boys’ and girls’ charts need separate checks?
Both contain fourteen categories, but several intermediate values differ. The girls’ sequence includes 130, 135 and 140, whereas boys have 132, 138 and 144. A dropdown with fourteen entries can still be the wrong adoption for the selected competition.
When testing registration, check a lighter, middle and upper category from each list. This catches a copied boys’ preset mislabeled as girls more reliably than counting entries or checking only the heavyweight limit. The class should also remain distinct from the athlete’s measured weight.
Which school records belong with the event entry?
The current manual describes assessment, certification and weigh-in administration beyond the numerical table. The school must establish the athlete’s permitted participation through that process. An online selection or payment cannot replace the approved record.
- Confirm the high-school competition and season.
- Read the complete boys’ or girls’ row.
- Review the athlete’s approved record for the competition date.
- Check any authorized allowance and reporting instruction separately.
Resolve eligibility with the responsible school staff rather than treating a lower category as an athlete’s goal or a problem to solve through rapid weight change.
How should Kansas hosts communicate the event?
Publish the class list, school competition context and order-of-competition instructions together. If the host uses a random draw, make the reporting plan clear so families do not rely on an assumed light-to-heavy schedule. A correct chart without a correct arrival plan can still leave an athlete missing a call.

Before bracketing, reconcile unexpected class numbers with the school coach. Correct one authoritative entry and communicate the result, rather than asking a family to submit another registration that duplicates the athlete.
