Georgia wrestling weight classes

Georgia wrestling weight classes from the 2026–27 GHSA constitution, with separate girls’ weights and the special rules for consecutive-day allowances.
Quick answer
Georgia’s 2026–27 GHSA wrestling section lists fourteen boys’ classes from 106 to 285 pounds and fourteen girls’ classes from 100 to 235 when girls wrestle girls. The nominal categories are separate from event-date allowances and the athlete’s weight-management eligibility. GHSA also distinguishes Team Dual and Traditional competition. Check the correct competition pathway and approved athlete record before entering a class; a published category does not by itself establish that a wrestler is eligible to use it.
Which GHSA weight classes are listed?
The current GHSA constitution’s wrestling section provides both lists. No growth or consecutive-day allowance has been added to these nominal labels.
| Competition | Nominal classes |
|---|---|
| Boys high school | 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215, 285 |
| Girls high school | 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 155, 170, 190, 235 |
How are girls’ classes different in the GHSA list?
The girls’ adoption includes 105, 110 and 115, with 130, 135, 140 and 145 in the middle. Boys use the separate sequence containing 132, 138, 144 and 150. The shared total of fourteen classes should not hide those differences.
When a school sends a roster, include the competition designation with each number. “Georgia 140” is not enough context for a host handling boys, girls and younger club athletes. Confirm which actual division the family intends to enter before asking for an eligibility review.
What is special about consecutive-day allowances in Georgia?
GHSA describes an additional pound for consecutive days of team competition, with a maximum and advance-notice requirement. It also specifically excludes a consecutive-day allowance based on competing the day before a postseason championship-series tournament. The school must follow the complete published provision rather than assuming yesterday’s competition always creates an allowance.
For planning, keep the base class in the bracket label and communicate the authorized scale limit separately. Record the source of any announced allowance in the event instructions so visiting coaches are not trying to resolve conflicting verbal claims at the scale.
How do Team Dual and Traditional entries differ?
A dual competition advances a team through a team contest, while Traditional competition follows the individual tournament pathway. GHSA publishes separate requirements within those structures, including participation and weight-certification provisions. A valid entry in one format is not a blanket authorization for another.
- Identify whether the packet describes a dual or Traditional event.
- Check the school’s actual assignment and entry instructions.
- Verify the athlete’s permitted class for that date.
- Confirm multiple-day weigh-in requirements with the responsible coach.
What should a Georgia host review before brackets go live?
Check that the event’s division list, invitation and coach instructions agree. An imported fourteen-class table can still be the wrong fourteen-class table. Review a lighter, middle and upper category for each competition designation, then check the final roster for numbers that do not belong.
For a Smart Wrestler event, complete the division review before the first family registers. Read the event host workflow.
GHSA’s weight-management instructions reject dangerous rapid-reduction practices. Treat a mismatched class as an administrative question for the school, never as an instruction for an athlete to dehydrate or reach a lower number on short notice.
Frequently asked questions
What is the boys’ 215 class in Georgia?
It is a nominal boys’ high-school category between 190 and 285 in the current GHSA list, subject to individual eligibility.
How many girls’ classes does GHSA publish?
Fourteen for girls wrestling girls, from 100 through 235 pounds.
Does competing yesterday always add a pound for postseason?
No. GHSA’s provision specifically excludes the stated prior-day basis before postseason championship-series competition. Follow the complete current rule.
Can the same entry instructions be used for every format?
Do not assume that. Check whether the event is Team Dual or Traditional and follow its applicable requirements.
