Wyoming wrestling weight classes

By the Smart Wrestler team · Written from hosting and scoring the events this software runs · Updated 2026-10-20

Wyoming wrestling weight classes from WHSAA championship materials: fourteen boys’ and fourteen girls’ classes, scale assignments and weight management.

Quick answer

Wyoming’s WHSAA 2026 state wrestling materials list fourteen boys’ weight classes from 106 to 285 pounds and fourteen girls’ classes from 100 to 235, assigned to seven scales at the Ford Wyoming Center. The WHSAA weight-management form separately sets how a wrestler’s minimum weight class is determined and how the January 1 allowance applies. Its body-fat figures are older than the NFHS 2026–27 female change, so confirm the current percentages with the WHSAA.

Which WHSAA weight classes appear in the 2026 championship materials?

The WHSAA’s memo on weigh-ins for the 2026 state tournament assigns every class to a scale. Reading the list gives the full set.

These come from a 2026 event document. They show the classes in use at that tournament, and a later season’s handbook may change them.

How were the classes organized at the 2026 state tournament?

Weigh-ins on Thursday, Friday and Saturday were run on seven scales, with girls going first and boys second, and each weight class was assigned to a scale. The memo quotes NFHS Rule 4-5-2: a contestant who fails to make weight on the first scale must immediately step on each available scale one time.

The schedule ran first-round matches, championship quarterfinals, three rounds of wrestle-backs, semifinals, consolation semifinals and third- and fifth-place matches before the championship finals on Saturday. Girls and 2A, 3A and 4A boys’ classifications each received their own team awards.

What does the WHSAA weight-management form say?

The WHSAA requires member schools to determine a minimum competitive weight for each varsity and sub-varsity wrestler. If the certified minimum weight is exactly that of an adopted class, that class is the minimum; if it is greater than a class, the next higher class becomes the minimum.

A wrestler may compete at the minimum class if additional pounds are given for consecutive days of weigh-ins or the two-pound growth allowance on January 1. The form’s worked example: a minimum of 107.68 pounds reached on December 31 allows the 106 class starting January 1.

Which parts of the form may be out of date?

The form states a 7% body-fat floor for males and 12% for females. NFHS raised the female criterion from 12 to 19 percent effective with the 2026–27 season, and the form does not carry a date. Treat the female percentage on this page’s source as unconfirmed for 2026–27 until the WHSAA publishes its current version.

The national change is summarized on the certification page. Read weight certification.

How should Wyoming hosts and families use the chart?

Use the list above for school events that follow WHSAA classes, and state which list an open event uses. Families should keep the athlete’s certified minimum record alongside the chart, because the chart alone does not decide eligibility.

Smart Wrestler hosts enter their weight classes when they build the event. Entering the printed list exactly avoids the common problem of a wrestler registering in a neighboring state’s class.
