Which account and profile should a parent use?

Start at the official membership site and recover an existing login or athlete profile when possible. A parent’s account and the child’s athlete profile are different identities within the workflow. Review the athlete’s name, birth date and state before purchasing, because an active card for the wrong sibling does not satisfy an entry check.

If a profile already exists but is unavailable to the current account, use the official help process instead of repeatedly creating new profiles. Keep the existing USA Wrestling ID when resolving an access issue. A duplicate can leave a valid membership attached to one record while the tournament checks another.

How do you purchase and retrieve the athlete card?

1. Sign in to the official USA Wrestling membership system and confirm the intended athlete profile under Manage → Profiles.
2. Open Manage → Memberships and choose Purchase / Renew Membership.
3. Select the correct athlete profile, membership product and season accepted by the event.
4. Review the cart and pay through the official system.

USA Wrestling’s help center has separate instructions for purchasing an Athlete Membership, printing a Membership Card and verifying membership or coach certifications. Use those instructions when a button label or process changes. The confirmation should identify the actual athlete and current membership, not merely show that the parent can log in.

Save the required proof in the form the host requests, and keep sensitive account information private. Do not post a child’s birth date or full membership card on a public event discussion simply to ask whether the purchase worked.

Why do you need a USA Wrestling card?

A sanctioned event can require an accepted active membership as an entry condition. The appropriate type depends on the event and the person’s role. Read the organizer’s instructions and USA Wrestling’s published membership descriptions rather than assume that every product covers every style or credential.

The membership purchase and tournament entry are separate transactions. After obtaining the card, complete the actual event registration, choose the proper division and meet its consent, payment and weighing conditions. Buying the card does not reserve a bracket place, approve a weight class or guarantee coaching access.

How much does a card cost, and how long does approval take?

Use the official current membership selector and the state/event requirements for price. USA Wrestling’s help center explains that membership costs depend on the membership selected; this page avoids publishing a guessed nationwide price that could be wrong for the role or season. Tournament entry fees remain separate.

A Wrestling Leader application can require SafeSport completion and successful background screening. USA Wrestling’s official help says background screening averages five to seven business days, with some cases taking up to four weeks. This is a provider estimate, not guaranteed approval or the entire coach-credential timeline. Start early and verify active status rather than arrive with only a pending receipt.

What should coaches verify beyond buying membership?

In Smart Wrestler, use the event’s registration and contact workflow for the competition itself. The platform does not issue the USA Wrestling credential or replace its membership database. If the card and event record disagree, compare the underlying athlete identity and USA Wrestling ID rather than create a second Smart Wrestler athlete to mask the mismatch.
