Indiana wrestling weight classes

Indiana wrestling weight classes shown in official 2026 school results, with boys’ and girls’ lists, IHSAA identity and a new-season verification checklist.

Quick answer

Indiana’s official 2026 IHSAA state results show fourteen boys’ classes from 106 to 285 pounds and fourteen girls’ classes from 100 to 235. These are the school categories documented by those results, not a youth-club age chart. The 2026–27 IHSAA bylaws separately govern school participation and entry procedures. Before a new event, check its current instructions and the athlete’s approved school record. Do not confuse Indiana’s IHSAA with Illinois’s IHSA or Iowa’s separately named association.

Which IHSAA weight classes are listed?

The numerical lists are verified against the official 2026 championship results. They describe that published competition; a new-season amendment must be checked through the school and current IHSAA instructions.

Why does the association name matter?

Indiana uses IHSAA, while Illinois uses IHSA and Iowa also uses the abbreviation IHSAA for its own boys’ association. A search for “IHSA weights” can therefore send an Indiana family to another state’s rules. Similar abbreviations do not make certification, postseason dates or entry procedures interchangeable.

Use the full state name in a team handout and link the official Indiana source. When saving a form, include the state and season in the filename. That helps an assistant coach distinguish a valid reference from a document collected for an out-of-state competition.

How do the girls’ and boys’ categories differ?

The girls’ 2026 finals include 100, 105, 110 and 115 at the lighter end and finish at 235. The boys’ sequence starts at 106 and ends at 285. There are fourteen categories in each, but their middle weights differ as well.

For example, girls’ 140 is not a boys’ class in this adoption. A registration form that offers one combined list can make an invalid selection look plausible. Use separate competition labels and compare each athlete’s approved entry with the correct sequence.

What should schools check before changing a postseason entry?

Rule 65 of the IHSAA bylaws addresses wrestling and includes questions about changing a sectional entry to another class before the weigh-in deadline. That administrative window does not eliminate the rest of the athlete’s eligibility requirements. Consult the exact rule and responsible school staff before making a change.

  1. Confirm the event’s entry deadline and current instructions.
  2. Check the approved minimum and dated eligibility.
  3. Verify whether a requested change is permitted at that stage.
  4. Have the authorized school contact communicate the correction to the host.

How can families follow the correct Indiana bracket?

Choose the actual event, boys’ or girls’ competition and weight before searching for the athlete. An archived finals page is useful evidence of past categories but does not tell a family the current mat assignment. Follow the school’s event notice and the live host information.

A bracket can also contain consolation matches after an initial loss. Learn how to read progression.

If a Smart Wrestler host lists the wrong class, report the event, athlete and expected school-approved entry to the coach. Avoid submitting a second registration to fix the first; the host should resolve the existing entry and preserve one clear competition record.

Frequently asked questions

Is 120 an Indiana school wrestling class?

Yes. It appears in both the official 2026 boys’ and girls’ finals lists reviewed here.

Are Indiana IHSAA and Illinois IHSA the same body?

No. They govern different states. Use the Indiana association’s instructions for Indiana school competition.

Does this chart apply to every Indiana youth club?

No. Club tournaments can use another organization’s age and weight structure.

Can a family change a sectional class just by editing registration?

The school must follow current IHSAA entry and eligibility rules. A software edit alone does not authorize the change.
