What are the IKWF weight classes for 2026–27?

By the Smart Wrestler team · Written from hosting and scoring the events this software runs · Updated 2026-10-19

IKWF 2026–27 State Series weights, boys’ and girls’ divisions, birth-date bands and dual-meet list. Check the league’s age date before registering.

Quick answer

IKWF publishes its own 2026–27 age groups and weight classes for the State Series. IKWF age is the wrestler’s age on December 31, 2026, calculated as 2026 minus birth year. The individual divisions are Bantam, Intermediate, Novice and Senior, with separate boys’ and girls’ weights. Tot has no State Series division. Dual Meet State Series uses a combined Novice/Senior structure and a different list. Club-run events and State Series eligibility are not identical, so check the specific event before choosing a division or copying a saved preset.

BantamJanuary 1, 2018–December 31, 20201 / 1 / 1 minutes
IntermediateJanuary 1, 2016–December 31, 20181 / 1 / 1 minutes
NoviceJanuary 1, 2014–December 31, 20161.5 / 1.5 / 1.5 minutes
SeniorJanuary 1, 2012–December 31, 20141.5 / 1.5 / 1.5 minutes

The overlapping birth years are present in IKWF’s published table. They are not a reason to invent a new cutoff or assume an athlete can enter twice. Resolve division choice under the league’s rules and the event instructions. IKWF participation is for eighth grade and below, and its published page excludes IKWF fifteen-year-olds from the State Series.

An IKWF Senior class such as 118 is not interchangeable with a domestic USA Wrestling 14U class such as 120. League and division labels belong beside the weight. Check the first and last limits as well as the familiar middle numbers before saving a roster or printing a dual sheet.

Girls’ lists have their own class counts and top limits. Copying the boys’ row and changing only a heavyweight would produce an incorrect division. A host should compare every value against the season’s league page and keep the sex/division label visible in the saved event settings.

This is not the complete Senior individual row: the lists must be compared rather than assumed equal. The league identifies this combined group as IKWF ages ten through fourteen. Do not use this table as a substitute for roster eligibility or the current dual-series participation requirements.

How do club events differ from the State Series?

IKWF specifically notes that wrestlers born September 1 through December 31, 2011 may participate in club-run events but are not eligible for the State Series. It also lists Tot for children born January 1, 2020 and after, while stating there is no Tot State Series division. Those examples show why a club entry confirmation does not prove postseason eligibility.

For a fictional review, a family sees “Novice” in a tournament invitation and remembers a USA Wrestling 12U entry from another weekend. The registrar should compare birth date, IKWF division, sex and weight against this league’s chart instead of copying the older label. In Smart Wrestler, identify the preset as IKWF 2026–27 and retain the event’s own registration instructions.

For the contrasting national chart, read USA Wrestling’s domestic divisions.
