Louisiana wrestling weight classes from the 2026–27 LHSAA manual: 14 boys’ classes, 12 girls’ classes and the eligibility checks behind an entry.

Quick answer

Louisiana’s 2026–27 LHSAA wrestling manual lists 14 boys’ high-school weight classes from 106 to 285 pounds and 12 girls’ classes from 100 to 235 pounds. The girls’ sequence includes 107 and 114, so it is different from the fourteen-class girls’ option used in some other states. These are nominal class labels. A wrestler must also satisfy the LHSAA weight-management record and date eligibility; making a number on a scale alone does not establish permission to enter it.

Which LHSAA weight classes are listed?

The tables are printed as images on page 6 of the current policy manual. The list below transcribes those tables into readable text. It does not add a growth or consecutive-day allowance.

Why does the LHSAA eligible-date record matter?

The manual requires an approved minimum before competition and prohibits wrestling below the eligible class shown in the official record. It also states that consecutive-day allowances cannot be used to bypass the descent-plan restriction. A class offered by the tournament is therefore not necessarily available to every athlete on that date.

For a practical roster review, put the competition date next to each athlete’s approved class. If a family requests a different number, ask the school coach to check that dated record before changing the entry. Avoid treating a lower class as a goal or asking a teenager to solve an administrative mismatch through rapid weight loss.

How do the boys’ divisions and girls’ competition affect the label?

The current manual organizes state competition into the boys’ divisions and a girls’ division. Those school-competition designations sit alongside the bodyweight class. A bracket needs both pieces of information; “Division I” is not a weight, and “120” alone is not a complete description of the entered competition.

Use the exact division wording in the host’s packet when sharing an entry list with families. That keeps similarly named classes separate and helps the coach identify the correct bracket without opening every 120-pound result in the venue.

What is a useful Louisiana weigh-in preparation check?

  1. Obtain the official form for the actual competition date.
  2. Match each proposed entry to the eligible class shown on that form.
  3. Keep the nominal weight label separate from any authorized allowance.
  4. Confirm the school’s records and results are updated after competition.

LHSAA requires schools to maintain actual weigh-in and result records in its designated system. An event registration or a public bracket is not a replacement for that compliance record. Assign one staff member to check completion rather than assuming another coach entered the information.

How should a Louisiana host handle a conflicting entry?

Hold the questionable selection for review and contact the school’s responsible coach. Ask which dated eligibility record supports the change. Do not allow a registration dropdown to overrule the governing process or quietly move an athlete because another state’s list looks familiar.

In a Smart Wrestler event, configure the boys’ fourteen and girls’ twelve lists as distinct divisions before accepting entries. Review the host setup workflow.

Before brackets are published, compare the final entries with the approved roster and the host packet. Resolving a mismatch at that point is clearer for families than changing an already announced bout assignment.

Frequently asked questions

Is 120 a Louisiana wrestling weight class?

Yes. It appears in both the boys’ and girls’ lists in the 2026–27 LHSAA manual. Individual eligibility still requires the appropriate school record.

What is Louisiana high-school heavyweight?

The nominal upper class is 285 pounds for boys and 235 for girls in the cited lists. Heavyweight does not mean unlimited.

Does Louisiana use fourteen girls’ classes?

The current LHSAA manual’s girls’ table contains twelve classes, including 107, 114 and 185.

Can an allowance override the descent plan?

The LHSAA manual specifically says consecutive-day allowances cannot qualify an athlete below what the dated descent plan permits.
