Quick answer
Decode a wrestling result by typing its abbreviation, optional winner-first score and optional elapsed time. TF 17-2 (4:12) means a technical fall recorded at seventeen to two after four minutes twelve seconds. MD means major decision; F or PIN means fall; FF means forfeit; MFF and MFFL mean medical forfeit. The tool separately shows high school folkstyle dual points and tournament bonus conventions, or UWW freestyle classification points. A score that conflicts with its category triggers a check message.
How do I read the score and time in a result code?
The supported form is abbreviation, winner score hyphen opponent score, then an optional time in parentheses. For example MD 12-3 describes a nine-point major decision margin in high school folkstyle. F (1:30) records a fall at one minute thirty seconds without implying a final numerical score. Scores should place the winner first and must not be tied. Time is elapsed bout time, not necessarily the time remaining on a period clock. The decoder accepts uppercase or lowercase and extra spacing around the score separator.
Which abbreviations does the decoder recognize?
DEC and D map to decision, MD to major decision, TF to technical fall, F and PIN to fall, FF and FOR to forfeit, MFF and MFFL to medical forfeit, and DQ to disqualification. A missing opponent, unrecognized abbreviation or seconds value above fifty-nine produces an input message rather than an invented result. Abbreviation conventions can differ by tournament provider, so this tool handles the explicitly listed aliases. If your event uses another code, consult the posted results legend or referee instead of guessing.
Why are dual points and bonus points shown separately?
Dual points measure a team-versus-team meet, while an individual tournament combines advancement, placement and bonus scoring. The high school option displays the conventional bonus for the result category separately from dual points; it does not calculate advancement, placement or the effect of a bye. Freestyle uses classification points and can give a loser point after a scored points or technical-superiority loss. A freestyle major decision is rejected because that category does not exist. Medical-forfeit and college tournament consequences require the applicable event rules, not an inference from an abbreviation alone.
Frequently asked questions
What does TF 17-2 (4:12) mean?
It means a technical fall with a winner-first score of seventeen to two, recorded four minutes twelve seconds into the bout. That fifteen-point margin matches the high school folkstyle technical-fall category.
What is the difference between F and FF?
F records a fall, also called a pin, during a contested bout. FF records a forfeit when the opponent does not wrestle. They may award the same folkstyle dual points but describe different events.
Does MFFL always award identical tournament points?
No. The decoder recognizes it as medical forfeit, but eligibility, advancement and scoring consequences depend on the governing rules and event context. It shows the high school convention rather than claiming a universal result.
