Quick answer
Find the smallest wrestling weight-class limit at or above an entered weight in pounds. Choose high school boys or girls with your state’s adopted 12, 13 or 14 classes, NCAA men or women, a 2027 USA Wrestling youth division, or your event’s own list. The result shows the class above and below and the difference from each relevant limit. This numerical lookup does not certify eligibility, account for allowances or recommend changing a wrestler’s body weight.
Which high school weight class list should I select?
NFHS publishes separate twelve-, thirteen- and fourteen-class options for boys and girls. A state association selects its adopted option, so the default fourteen-class list is not universal. Select the division and class count before entering a weight, then compare the displayed class limits with the tournament entry information. The finder uses pounds throughout. It does not automatically add a growth allowance, a consecutive-day allowance or any state-specific adjustment. Use an event-specific custom list only when the host has published adjusted limits.
How does the class above and below calculation work?
The tool scans the chosen ascending limits and selects the first limit greater than or equal to the entered weight. At exactly a class limit, that class remains the numerical match. A decimal amount above it moves the lookup to the next listed class. The result displays how far under the chosen limit the wrestler is, and how far over the lower limit. If the entered weight exceeds the highest listed limit, it reports the excess instead of inventing a heavyweight class.
Which youth and college divisions are supported?
The NCAA options separate the men’s folkstyle championship list from the women’s freestyle championship list. The youth selector uses the 2027 domestic USA Wrestling chart and asks for both the age division and the boys or girls chart, because their limits differ. Youth events using Madison groups or local weight classes should use Custom instead. A listed maximum is only one part of eligibility: certified minimums, heavyweight minimums, age rules, state adoption and the host’s weigh-in requirements must be checked separately.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include all three NFHS weight class options?
Yes. Both boys and girls have twelve-, thirteen- and fourteen-class selections. Pick the set your state has adopted rather than assuming the fourteen-class default applies.
Does the finder tell a wrestler to cut weight?
No. It only compares an entered number with published limits. It does not provide diet, dehydration or weight-cutting recommendations, and it cannot replace an eligibility or minimum-weight certification.
Can I use custom youth weight classes?
Yes. Select Event-specific / custom and enter positive upper limits in pounds separated by commas. The finder sorts them and removes duplicates before calculating adjacent classes.
