How many matches does a round robin produce?

When should a round robin split into pools?
Above about six wrestlers, the match count grows too fast: a single 8 person round robin is 28 matches, while two pools of 4 are 12 matches plus a short placement bracket. How do you handle a group of two?

How long does a round robin tournament take?
Add up the matches across all groups, divide by the number of mats, and multiply by about six minutes for youth periods (longer for high school). Ten weight classes of five wrestlers is 100 matches; on four mats that is about two and a half hours of wrestling plus weigh ins and breaks.
